What is it?

As a CALS Honors student you will:

  • Participate in an honors seminar, ALS 398H with students from across the college
  • Work with faculty or research scientists on an in-depth, two-semester research or teaching project, ALS 498H and 499H
  • Present your work at the Undergraduate Research Symposium
  • Write a professional-style paper on your research or teaching project
  • Challenge yourself academically by taking honors level upper division courses
  • Maintain a GPA of at least 3.35
  • Graduate with College Honors, an exemplary academic record, and a distinctive record
Who is Eligible?
Students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences who have completed 30 credit hours at NC State and have a GPA of at least 3.35 are invited to join the CALS Honors Program. During the fall semester, eligible students are mailed an invitation to participate in the program, so that they can register to the take the honors seminar, ALS 398H, in the spring semester.  Transfer students must earn at least a 3.35 GPA during their first semester at NCSU to qualify for the program. Invited students can register for the program online. After joining the program, Honors Students are expected to maintain their GPA above 3.35 and complete the Honors program requirements.
