The Faculty:The faculty are the most important factor to consider in selecting an academic institution at which to study. You want to study under the top people in the field. The faculty in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education at North Carolina State University are indeed the top people in the field. There is solid evidence to support this contention.
One of the highest honors given in the field of Agricultural and Extension Education is to be recognized as a "Fellow" by the American Association of Agricultural Education. The designation of "Fellow" means the profession has tremendous respect for your involvement in and contributions to the profession. Our Department has four active "Fellows"; the most of any university in America.
We also provide leadership to the profession. Among the ranks of our active, emeritus and adjunct faculty we have individuals who are currently serving or have served as national or international PRESIDENT of the following professional organizations:
- Alpha Tau Alpha (National Agricultural Education Honorary)
- American Association for Agricultural Education
- American Vocational Education Research Association
- Association for Career and Technical Education
- Association for Career and Technical Education Research
- Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education
- Association of Leadership Educators
- National Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association (now the National Association of Agricultural Educators)
- Omicron Tau Theta (National Career and Technical Education Honorary)
And it should be noted that we have a tremendous student-centered support staff who can assist you as a student.
Because of our experience and national involvement in the profession, we can open doors for you!
Organization of the Department:The organization of our department is somewhat unique in the fact that the state leadership for the secondary agricultural education and FFA programs in the state is located in our Department. In many states these individuals are found in a state Department of Education. Our department is organized into three "teams", however many of the faculty work on more than one team. The chart below shows the team in which the faculty member has the greatest responsibility.
