Computer Upgrades

How does this work?
Please contact our Service Desk Team to come by and begin the process of upgrading your existing Mac or PC machine or to image your new machine.  Appointments are for one machine at a time. If you have multiple machines that do NOT require backing up or need a loaner replacement, we may be able to accommodate more. Please contact the service desk if you need to have more than one machine scheduled on a given day before booking an appointment.

Limited Availability of Loaners
Please indicate if you need a loaner. We cannot guarantee we will have them available but our service desk will try to provide a loaner. Please note, you will have basic functionality on a loaner - email, calendar, and access to mapped department shares. If you have important files on your current desktop that you need during the upgrade process, please copy them to an external storage device to use with your loaner.

How to prepare for upgrade
A tech will come by to visit you at your scheduled time, so you must be present. Our tech will have you log in, review your software and file needs, take notes and any installation media you provide. If you have very important files, back them up to an external device as an additional measure before we take your machine. If  you have specialized software, please have the installation media and proof of license available for us so that we can reinstall the software. Be sure to review any other special needs with your service desk tech the day they come out. We will take the machine back to the CALS IT workbench to begin the backup and upgrade.

It will take up to 2-3 business days for turnaround.

What changes will I notice on my computer when brought under CALS IT Standard Computing Environment (SCE)?

Are you scheduling this for someone other than yourself?
If you are scheduling another staff member's upgrade, please provide their information when contacting us, such as their UnityID and Email address.
