Bob Patterson has been teaching and conducting research in the Crop and Soil Sciences Department since 1968.  He has studied food production practices in several African (Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Senegal, and Ghana), Latin American (Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua), European (Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, and Czech Republic), and southeast Asian (China, India,  and Nepal) countries.  He taught a graduate plant physiology course and conducted soybean water relations research at Humboldt University during the winter semester at Humboldt University in Berlin as a Fulbright Scholar in 1995-96.   For eight years (2007-14)  he taught a Study Abroad course (STS 323; World Population and Food Prospects) at the Prague Institute.  Approximately one-half of the three dozen graduate students whose committees he has chaired or chaired have been international students (including Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Argentina, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, and former Zaire (Democratic Republic of Congo).  Keen interest remains in empowering our baccalaureate students to strengthen their worldview through interaction with international students and mentors, both on our campus and abroad.
