Abstract Title : Helium Diffusion, Solubility, and Permeability Measurements of nEDM Experiment Construction Materials |
|
Abstract : We describe the construction and operation of an apparatus to measure diffusion, permeability, and solubility of helium gas through polymeric materials that could be used in the construction of the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) experiment. The nEDM project is a collaboration of 20 universities and laboratories to set a new experimental limit on the neutron EDM, which is test of the Standard Model of subatomic particles. The results from our diffusion measurements will determine the design and operation of the cryogenic liquid helium containment volumes for the nEDM experiment. The nEDM apparatus will be mounted at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The measurement apparatus was calibrated against published diffusion measurements on thin Kapton films. |
