 Spawning striped bass

The NCSU Department of Biology has a strong and diverse research portfolio.  Faculty research programs address both basic scientific questions and the challenges of applying scientific knowledge to practical issues.  Topics of interest vary widely as do the levels of analysis, ranging from molecular, cellular, and physiological systems levels to organisms, populations, and ecosystems.  From studies of the molecular basis of growth to the effects of social interactions on the nervous system to the development of aquaculture best practices, we share a passion for understanding the living world.
