The CAAT Office maintains a number of student computing facilities that can be reserved by CALS faculty for teaching college courses. The primary purpose of these computing facilities is to serve our students and academic programs. When a lab is not open for student use (i.e. student breaks), it may be scheduled for non-academic workshops or presentations. However, note that computing upgrades and facilities maintenance activities are often scheduled during these periods, so that labs may not always be available for reservations.
Scheduling Student Labs for CALS Faculty/Staff Training (Training Provider is a NC State University Employee)
When the lab is not open for student use, it may be reserved by CALS faculty or staff for non-academic teaching workshops. For example, a department may wish to hold a Professional Development Workshop for their staff, may wish to schedule in-service computer training for their faculty or staff, or other university training. The lab may be scheduled for this purpose. Note: consult the Lab Operating Hours for lab hours during a given calendar year.
Scheduling Student Labs for CALS Faculty/Staff Training (Training Provider is an outside Vendor)
In special cases the lab may be reserved for faculty/staff training that involves an outside vendor coming on site to teach. For example, a department may wish to schedule computer training for their staff with an outside vendor. Each request will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Modifying Software in the CALS Student Computing Facilities
The student labs are tightly integrated into the campus network and all computers are configured to deliver an identical environment for our students and teaching faculty. These computers or the software provided cannot be modified or upgraded for workshops except under exceptional circumstances, with clear permission, and with at least six weeks notice. Faculty/staff wishing to reserve the labs for non academic teaching should inform the CAAT office of any exceptional needs at the time the lab is reserved.
