STEAM (Student Transfer Enrollment Advising and Mentoring) is a program unique to CALS and the first program of its type at the University. The STEAM program is designed to help make higher education more accessible to North Carolina students interested in agriculture. The STEAM program is an alternative admissions pathway for rural North Carolina students interested in pursuing an agriculturally-related major. The program is by invitation only. STEAM students participate in a summer session at NC State and then take their first year of coursework at an NC Community College (or other institution). STEAM students are well-supported through mentoring, academic support, and personalized course and academic advising to ensure that the credits they earn in their first year will apply toward their NC State degree. STEAM students who complete all requirements of the program are guaranteed admission into the agriculture major to which they applied at NC State for their sophomore year. STEAM students are responsible for paying tuition and fees at the current institution they attend.
