Roughly 3,800 students are enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, but only 30% sought financial assistance via the CALS Scholarship Application for the 2016-17 academic year. Of those 1,169 applications, about 619 scholarship offers were extended to CALS students. CALS awards over $1 million in scholarships and fellowships annually to outstanding students, with an average individual award of $1,500-$2,000.
To apply for and assure proper consideration for all scholarships, students must complete the college's online scholarship application. Before you apply, review the list of CALS scholarships available, the selection process for scholarships, and how to apply if you're an incoming freshman, or a continuing or transfer student.
All students who apply for admission by October 15 and apply for financial aid via FAFSA by March 1st will automatically be considered for university-level need-based academic scholarships.
We strongly encourage CALS applicants to apply for freshman admission by October 15 for priority consideration of all CALS Scholarships as well. The scholarship application will be required for CALS Scholarship consideration and is accessible after admission (deadlines below).
Financial Aid Deadlines
Note the deadlines below to apply for financial aid and respond to award letters. Failure to complete required applications or meet deadlines can reduce the amount of aid or disqualify students from receiving aid.
- December 1, 2016: CALS Scholarship Application opens for continuing students (including AGI and graduate students)
- February 1, 2017 (or upon admission): CALS Scholarship Application opens for newly admitted students
- March 1, 2017: Deadline to submit FAFSA **Consider submitting earlier for optimal scholarship consideration!**
- April 2017: CALS Scholarship offers disbursed (award will later be included in University Financial Aid package but is pending return of thank you note)
Financial aid packages for freshman are traditionally released in April and packages for transfer students are typically released in May, assuming all financial aid materials and scholarship applications were submitted by March 1st.
