NCSU CALS Career Services - Student - Interviewing

If you have an interview for a job or internship you have obviously impressed an employer with your qualifications.  Now it is time to prove to them you are the right person for the position in your interview.  Interviews can be intimidating, but you can increase your confidence by preparing ahead of time.

Check out Career Services To-Go! Interviewing to get some interviewing tips and sample questions to start preparing now for your interview.  Don't wait until you actually have an interview to start preparing.  Many times, employers will call you to set up an interview for the next day, leaving you little time to get ready.

The real key to a successful interview is practice!  Interviewing is a skill that can be learned and improved and everyone's skill level improves the more that they practice.  Don't use real interviews as practice.  Intead, the Career Services staff is here to help you by conducting mock interviews.  These appointments give you a chance to practice your skills and get helpful feedback before your actual interview.  Meet with a Peer Counselor or Career Advisor by calling 515-3249.  You can also participate in Mock Interview Day, which is held each spring.

Many students aren't sure how to dress for interviews and often make the mistake of dressing too casually.  This mistake can cost you the job!

Review Career Services To-Go! Extreme Student Makeover for resources on making the transition from student to professional.  Watch a short video of an actual student makeover and get specific examples of casual, business casual and business formal attire.
