Marcy Bullock, CALS Career Services Director                 Marcy Bullock
Director

My role at NC State
As the Director I manage the office and try to inspire everyone around me to reach their potential. I teach courses, and counsel students. I strive to keep our programs on the cutting edge. I am proud that our team has been recognized nationally for our innovative approach to helping students make sense of their options and reach their career goals.

My career path
My first job in high school was at KFC and I moved up to being a hostess at the Rusty Pelican while in college. I knew I wanted to help people, so I worked at an Alcohol Treatment Center with inpatients after I graduated with a Sociology degree. I quickly realized that I preferred working with motivated college students, so after graduate school I went on to work at four university career centers from California, to Australia, to my current home, North Carolina.

The rewards in my work
Touching students' lives and guiding them to reach their goals is very rewarding. When I hear alumni tell me that I had a positive impact on the career choices they made I feel like I have been a success. I get very pumped up when I see the growth that a student experiences from Freshman to Senior year and I know that I had some influence on that process. I am passionate about teaching students the value of finding a balance between their personal and professional life. We all seek happiness and I love helping students explore what will light a fire in their belly when the alarm goes off on Monday morning and it is time to begin a work week.

My words of wisdom to students
Be true to yourself! If you don't know your purpose in life, then your purpose is to find it. Use all the resources available to you to help in this self discovery process, including, of course, CALS Career Services!  If you plan ahead you will have a higher probability of finding a great job after you leave NC State.

When I'm not on campus
I am usually on the soccer field either playing in the co-ed league with my husband (we met on the soccer field) or cheering on one of our daughters. I also like to cook fish tacos, jog and sing Karaoke.

DeMonica Gentry, Graduate Assistant DeMonica Gentry
Graduate Assistant

My role at NC State
I absolutely loved serving the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as a Peer Counselor and I am thrilled that I can continue to do so as a Graduate Assitant for CALS Career Services. The resources that this office has allows me to help my fellow students and those to come, grow into professional individuals who not only exhibit academic talent but are and will be sound leaders and contributors to the community.

My career path
I am a 2012 graduate of NC State University where I received my B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Genetics. I have returned to the beloved home of the Wolfpack as a first year graduate student to obtain a Master's of Physiology. As an undergrad, I was a student leader  in a host of organizations from the Pre-Health Club to serving as a Peer Counselor with CALS Ambassadors. I also worked as a Research Assistant for the Department of Plant Pathology. My passion is to influence the field of medicine as a physcian.

When I'm not on campus
I’m in the books studying, jamming to music, singing, cooking, volunteering, or hanging out with family and friends. I'm also having fun with my cat and two dogs.

My role at NC State
As a freshman at NC State I am excited to start exploring my opportunities academically, professionally, and socially. Being so involved in high school, naturally I am already very involved here at the University. In addition to the CALS Career Services Internship I am also a part of the Agromeck Yearbook Staff. I am also interested in joining clubs on campus such as the Entrepreneurship Initiative am considering becoming a part of Greek Life. Living on campus this year has been great for me so far and I look forward to learning about RA opportunities. As a freshman at NCSU, I am ready to better myself through personal development as well as better the people and community around me. Go Pack!

My career path
Currently enrolled in CALS (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) I am an undergrad with an undeclared major. I love agriculture and public health, but I also have an interest in business, communications, and marketing. Some of the classes that I enjoy most are sociology and psychology. With so many varied interests, I am still trying to determine what my real passion is and preparing myself for the future.

When I'm not on campus
When I’m not on campus I’m always in the company of good friends or family. I live five hours away so trips home are few and far between, but they are worth every minute to see my loving parents, younger sister, amazing grandmother, my sweet dog Charlie, and my old friends from high school. While I’m in Raleigh if I’m not on campus I may be found shopping at Target, eating Mexican food, or seeing a movie. I also like to travel, eat out, shop at antique stores, and overall try new experiences and make new friends!

“For a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin – real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time to still be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin.
