NCSU CALS HealthPAC -Program Prerequisites

*NOTE: These are recommendations of the BASIC prerequisite courses required by graduate programs in these areas. HOWEVER, individual schools may have additional requirements and you are strongly encouraged to investigate schools of interests and any specific requirements related to those programs! Below are some resources available along with the internet to help you evaluate program requirements, etc. (we have copies of these located in our office):

  • Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR)
  • ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools
  • Schools and Colleges of Optometry: Admissions Requirements
  • World Directory of Medical Schools
  • Osteopathic Medical College Information Book

In addition, the professional association web sites (AAMC, ADEA, AACOM, APMA, AOA, etc) are full of good information on their schools/programs. Also, each school has its own website. Please take the time to review the information on each program of interest early to ensure that you will meet their requirements as well as for how well your credentials meet with their program specifications.

You should also consult directly with the schools regarding any special allowances or considerations for course substitutions, waivers, and allowed time limits (ie. Many programs will not accept prerequisites older than 5 years without more recent advanced coursework in that area).

REPEAT: *Please check with individual schools for additional requirements.

ALSO - because many programs expect 6 hours of English (2 semesters and NCSU has condensed our 2 semester English series into our 4 our ENG 101 - students are encouraged to take a second ENG course during their UG studies if not already required by their curriculum)
