BEFORE
requesting an appointment and to help educate yourself about the services available to help you...

PLEASE follow these simple steps:

  • FIRST – Visit the Health PAC website. MANY of your basic questions can be answered if you familiarize yourself with the VAST amount of information on our website.
     
  • NEXT – If you have not done so already – Register with Health PAC. This will put you on our bulk e-mail distribution list and keep you in the loop with vital and pertinent information all year long including events, jobs, internships, classes, etc as well as allow you access to the application portfolio builder, workshops registration and more.
     
  • REVIEW – KEY information under the following links:

    6. Ready to Apply? – (if you are ready to apply – also review the material under "Current Applicants" located in the upper right hand corner of the website for application timelines, the handbook and additional information - see below for additional information).
       
  • Visit the “Health PAC Portfolio and the creating a portfolio tutorial listed aboe on the website. Open your portfolio and again make sure your data sheet is correct!! We use this information to contact you as well as search student interests for jobs, internships, application groups, etc. This is a valuable organizational tool to upload information that will ultimately become part of your professional school application packet and allows us to better counsel you during office meetings. THEN COMPLETE AS MUCH OF YOUR PORTFOLIO AS POSSIBLE SPECIFICALLY UPLOADING ANY TRANSCRIPTS, COMPLETING AS MUCH OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS SHEET AS POSSIBLE AND UPLOADING A PHOTO

    AGAIN - BEFORE REQUESTING A MEETING!!!!
    – you MUST OPEN OR  UPDATE your portfolio – especially your ACCOMPLISHMENTS sheet so Dr. Flick can assess your current activities, strengths and weaknesses. Use the portfolio example and tutorial to assist you with this process.
     
  • If you would like to request a meeting – Make sure you have reviewed the information on the website, updated your portfolio and then EMAIL DR. FLICK A LIST OF YOUR SPECIFIC QUESTIONS NOT ANSWERED ON THE WEBSITE ALONG WITH THE PDF OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS SHEET WHICH CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM THE WEBSITE AND YOUR AVAILABILITY – and she will be happy to schedule a time to meet with you.
     
  • Juniors/Seniors/Alums beginning the application process: You should submit your applications during the EARLY summer (JUNE) of the year before you wish to start professional school (ie. Applications are submitted the summer of 2010 for matriculation in the fall of 2011). It is critical that you stay alert for emails which pertain to your application cycle, regarding timeline, deadlines, and requirements!! Extensive information is available for you under the section titled "Current Applicants" (for current applicants – this is updated annually – we begin working with students on their application materials in November of the before their summer application process – rough drafts of personal statements are expected by February and we encourage students to have all materials and recommendations ready by mid-May of their application year).
     
  • Visit the Health PAC Office/Resource Center to browse the resources that we have on hand. The office is generally open for viewing materials from 9 – 3, Monday - Friday, Bostian 2720 during the academic year and by appointment during the summer – we recommend scheduling an appointment for an advising sessions (see above).
     
  • Consider joining the Pre-Health Club.  Visit the website at http://clubs.ncsu.edu/premed.
     
  • Attend the FREE NCSU Health Career Expo each year – the next expo will be March 28th, 2011 in the Talley Ballroom, 12 - 4. Many medical, dental, optometry, and allied health programs and schools will be represented at this information fair with recruiters to answer your questions.
