Charles G. Wright Distinguished Professor of Structural Pest Management (1997) |
| Overview |
On November 16, 1987, North Carolina State University received a commitment from Blanton J. Whitmire (private sector) for two Whitmire Distinguished Professorships. Subsequent to making his commitment, Mr. Whitmire requested that one of the professorships be named in honor of Dr. Charles G. Wright. In fact, the initial agreement included this prerogative.
The Wright Distinguished Professorship shall be in the Department of Entomology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. It is the intent that these resources shall, in perpetuity, be employed exclusively for programs in pest management, with a global perspective, through teaching, research and extension, excluding termites and other wood destroying organisms. The emphasis on a global perspective reflects the donor’s particular interest in technical assistance to Kenya and contiguous third world countries and for improvement of the quality of life for mankind. The recipient shall be known as the Wright Distinguished Professor.
The expected benefit to the University shall be the further enhancement of its research, teaching, and extension programs in Entomology through faculty excellence. These enhancement resources will enable NC State to be nationally competitive in attracting and retaining renowned research and teaching scholars. |
