Each semester, for four semesters, Master of Microbial Biotechnology students experience an opportunity to collect practical, industry-related experience through the Industry Case Studies course, MB 585. Students spend the first few weeks of each semester learning about topics related to the biotechnology industry, attending seminars led by industry guest speakers, and practicing their oral and written communication skills. During the rest of the semester, students work in teams toward the completion of practicum projects assigned by partnering companies in the Research Triangle Park (RTP) area. Partnering companies and assigned teams change each semester so as to increase exposure to different companies and foster versatility in team work. In addition to completion of team practicum projects during the course of the semester, students are exposed to a series of professional skill development modules.
