VMP 930: Canine Gross Worm Quiz

Identify:
Nematode: large (7-12 cm), thick, relatively straight. Anterior end: rounded with 3 fleshy lips. Cervical alae:  distinct. Esophagus: large strongyliform. Ventriculus between esophagus & Intestine:  present.  Male -- Copulatory bursa: lacking. Spicules: blade-like. Posterior: curved to grasp female. Male Posterior Tail: Constriction posterior to anus giving appearance of finger-like tip.
2. Dog feces or perineum

Identify:
Tapeworm segment.  White in appearance. 2 lateral genital pores. Shape: Oval, cucumber seed or rice.
3. Canine Vomitus

Identify:
Nematode: large (3-8 cm), thick, straight to coiled. Anterior end: blunt, with cephalic collar, small pointed lips.  Male -- caudal alae & papillae: present. Spicules: blade-like. Female -- Uterus:  with oval smooth, larvated eggs.
4. Dog feces or perineum

Identify:
Tapeworm segment.  White in appearance. One lateral genital pore. Shape: Rectangular when rehydrated.
5. Canine Feces


Identify:
Acanthocephalan: large (2-25 cm), thick worm with wrinkled integument.  Anterior: retractable proboscis with many hooks.  No digestive system.
6. Canine vomitus

Identify:
Nematode: large (7-12 cm), thick, relatively straight. Anterior end: rounded with 3 fleshy lips. Cervical alae:  distinct. Esophagus: large strongyliform.
