Content Outline
Stage 1: Animal Husbandry: must complete 10 hours to receive credit
a. Feeding and watering cats/dogs/exotics or pocket pets
b. Cleaning and sterilizing feeding bowls and toys
c. Cleaning kennels or cages for cats/dogs/exotics or pocket pets
d. Laundry
e. Preparation for the next day ie: stocking litter boxes or food
 
Stage 2: Animal Enrichment: must complete 10 hours to receive credit
a. Dog exercising
b. Puppy socialization
c. Socialization of fearful dogs and puppies
d. Cat socialization
e. Pocket pet socialization
f. Distribution of toys

Stage 3: Assisting the health care technicians in receiving; must complete 10 hours to receive credit
a.  Assist in processing of animals including: administering deworming medication, flea treatment, and vaccinations
b.  Identify animals in need of medical attention
c.  Assist with Venipuncture for heartworm or FIV/FeLV testing
d.  Photograph animals as they enter and load images onto the Center website

Stage 4:  Assisting the Veterinary staff: must complete 20 hours to receive credit
a. Assist with restraint of animals for physical examinations
b. Assist with Venipuncture for heartworm and FIV/FeLV testing
c. Assist with patient preparation for surgery
d. Assist with cleaning instruments and wrapping surgical packs

Optional StageCommunity Service with WCAC
a. Rabies Clinic
b. Microchip Clinic
Note- PreVet tracl students will have the opportunity to gain community service experience through WCAC events.
 
When the student begins the husbandry section of the program, they will receive literature about animal body language, puppy socialization, and the dog walking manual. In order to proceed to the next section of the program, the student must pass a quiz on the literature and demonstrate the ability to safely approach and remove dogs from kennels, apply walking harnesses correctly, pick up and hold cats, kittens, puppies and pocket pets. Student must also demonstrate the ability to identify signals  of aggression in dogs and cats. Prior to beginning the final section of the program, the student will receive the receiving manual outlining the protocols and standard operating procedures. The student may be required to pass a quiz to proceed.  After completing the program the student may continue volunteering at the Center and become a student trainer for the next group of participants. Students who continue to work at the Center would continue to earn their animal and veterinary hours. This is invaluable to the program, and demonstrates the leadership capabilities of the Student Trainers. The student will also be asked to fill out a survey that on how they felt their experience was, and how this certificate program can improve.
