Animal agriculture in the United States and many parts of the world faces a challenge. If producers are be competitive, they must employ methods of managing the by-products they generate -- the manure, litter, mortalities, hatchery and processing plant offal, and wastewater -- that are at the same time environmentally sound, socially acceptable and economically feasible.
