Event Title: Opening Doors 2019 Retreat
Opening Doors 2019

Welcome to the Opening Doors Retreat Registration page
(Please read all this information thoroughly prior to deciding to register)

Opening Doors is a three-day retreat that provides a framework for increasing diversity awareness and enhances a person’s ability to create an inclusive organization. The overall goal of Opening Doors is to facilitate both personal growth and systemic organizational change.  The retreat provides for open discussion, self-examination and an objective analysis of our social system, as well as, a constructive means to bridging differences through understanding personal responsibility. As a result, participants develop constructive methods of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

In collaboration with the University's Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, CALS is pleased to offer the 10th annual retreat.  This year's Opening Doors retreat has been scheduled and is set to be held from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9th through 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11th, 2019, at the Eastern 4-H Center in Columbia, NC.  The retreat is absolutely free for all NC State employees and close affiliates.  Meals, lodging, and transportation* are included.  Outside organizations are welcome to join for a fee of $500 for non-profit agency employees and $700 for private industry business employees (outside agencies please have your representatives contact Ms. LaTosha Bradley at to register).

Upon Registering Please be advised That:

Because this is a high demand retreat there is a limit on the number of employees allowed to participate per session.  This ensures a full and rewarding experience to each person in attendance.

It is very important that all participants and wait listed registrants carefully consider this commitment and plan accordingly, by reserving the workshop time on their schedules.
The Opening Doors retreat requires 3 days and 2 days of overnight stay in a
two (2) registrant per room hotel/styled lodging facility.  The retreat begins on 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8th and will end at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11th.  Your registration to attend is a commitment.  Due to the need to effectively manage resorces used to provide this opportunity, please inform our office immediately if you can no longer commit to the entire retreat.  If you are wait-listed, we ask that you, please, allow the wait list to remain as useful as possible by informing our office that you no longer wish to wait, which will remove your registration from the wait list and allow other wait listed registrants, who are sure they can wait, to move forward on the list.  Please contact Ms. LaTosha Bradley, via e-mail at or via phone at 919.513.0739, as soon as possible to review all concerns.

If we encounter any concerns with your registration for the retreat, we will notify you as soon as possible. Otherwise, we will confirm your participation, with suggested pre-reading materials, as soon after you register as possible, but usually, and depending on when your registration is finalized, no later than a week before the workshop is set to begin.

Once our office can confirm no registrant conflicts for each registrant, (e.g. no supervisor/supervised relationship amongst registrants) registrants, not placed on the wait list, should expect to receive a confirmation message, and additional messages with important retreat details and reminders to follow throughout the months leading up to the retreat's start date.  As such, please be sure to provide an email address that you will be able to monitor regularly for these messages.

Finally, please don't hesitate to contact our office, via email at,,, or via phone at (919) 513-0739, with any questions or concerns you may have about the 2019 Opening Doors retreat, and please accept our most sincere gratitude for your interest in assisting our College and University explore ways to enhance our understanding of difference and inclusion.

*Transportation will only be offered if two or more participants show an interest in driving a state provided van, from the NC State University, Raleigh, NC Brickhaven location to the Eastern 4-H Center and back.
