Event Title: Soils, Fertilizers, and Cover Cropping in the Home Garden
Description: Understand your garden soil and the impact of organic matter (through compost, cover crops and other sources) on that soil.  Learn about soil fertility and fertilizers and the soil sampling tools that help you make good fertilizer decisions.  Open to the public and an integral part of the Carteret County 2012 Master Gardener course.

Taught by NC State Professor Carl Crozier, from the Vernon James Research and Extension Center in Plymoth, NC.  Carl's specialty is Soil Fertility Management in the Tidewater Region.  His research interests include understanding basic aspects of soil/plant interactions in agricultural systems that might lead to more efficient fertilizer use. Specific interests include N cycling in agricultural systems, characterizing soil microenvironments, the chemistry and management of organic soils, and developing precision fertilizer management schemes.

The class will be held on the 3rd floor, room 306, CMAST building, the NC State University Building on the campus of the Community College in Morehead City.  Space for this class is limited, so please make sure to reserve your seat.  Please do not reserve a space unless you are sure you will be able to attend, and please cancel your reservation at least a week in advance if it appears you have a conflict.
