Dr. Xiang runs a research lab on Plant Molecular Systematics and Evolution in the department of Plant and Microbial Biology at North Carolina State University. The NC State flower Cornus florida L. and its relatives have been a main focus of the study. Her research program spans topics in phylogenetics, biogeography, hybridization, polyploidy, and recently in evolutionary developmental genetics and ecological genomics. The lab trains undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral students, and visiting scholars, and enjoys collaboration with colleagues at NC State and other institutions in the United States and other countries.     Xiang also teaches a Systematic Botany course (PB403/PB503) every fall semester at both undergraduate and graduate levels, a Summer Study Abroad in China course (PB495-500/PB595-500) called Plant Resources, Ecology, and Culture in Eastern China, in collaboration with Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, and co-instructors of Dr. David Boufford and Dr. Tom Wentworth, a special topic course in Botany on a need basis (PB624T: Advanced Topics in Systematics and Evolution), and US-China study abroad class. She also mentors undergraduate student research via courses of PB493 or work-study hiring.
